WWI Reredos

The magnificent carved Reredos depicting The Ascension of Christ, commemorates those from the Parish who died during the First World War (1914 – 1918). It was sculpted by Messrs RJ Boulton & Sons, with architect John Coates Carter FRIBA and was unveiled on 13th November 1921 by Vice Admiral Sir Richard Fortescue Phillimore KCB KCMG MVO RN.

It was dedicated by the Bishop of Guildford, The Rt. Rev. John Harold Grieg.

The incription on the left plaque reads:

PRAY FOR THE SOULS OF ALL WHO FELL IN THE

I AM HE THAT LIVETH AND WAS DEAD AND BEHOLD I AM ALIVE
FOR EVERMORE AND WITH HIM LIVE THOSE WHO DIED FOR US
